Orioles’ sour end to sweet 2023 extends playoff losing streak to MLB-worst 8 games: ‘Are we ever going to win again?’ The Orioles’ streak of 91 regular-season series without being swept defined their 2023 campaign before the club’s unprecedented year ended in “ironic” fashion, as center fielder Cedric Mullins put it, with a sweep in the American League Division Series. That streak is technically still intact, but the next time Baltimore is in the playoffs, a new one will be the focus. With their three-and-out in the ALDS against the Rangers, the Orioles have lost eight consecutive postseason games — the worst stretch in franchise history and the longest active streak in the sport. Only nine teams in MLB history have suffered a longer such streak.“You never want to be on a streak,” Orioles fan Nathan Skidmore said before Game 3 of the ALDS. “You never want people to be able to pull that up on a graphic and be like, ‘Eight in a row.’“Anytime you’re on a streak like that, I think you start to worry like, ‘Are we e...

The eclipse is expected to begin at 9:13 a.m. PST in Oregon, and pass through Northern Nevada, Utah, and New Mexico, before reaching Texas just before noon CST. Months on, there are few signs that Turkey plans to honor its pledge to help Sweden join NATO BRUSSELS (AP) — Three months after NATO announced that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had agreed to let Sweden become a member of the military organization, little sign has emerged that the Nordic country will be allowed to join its ranks anytime soon. The issue was expected to be raised Thursday at NATO headquarters where the 31 member countries were holding their second day of talks.Sweden and its neighbor Finland turned their backs on decades of military non-alignment after President Vladimir Putin ordered Russia troops to invade Ukraine in February 2022. Their aim was to seek protection under NATO’s security umbrella, and Finland joined in April. All 31 NATO allies must endorse Sweden’s membership. Turkey and Hungary are dragging their feet. Publicly, Erdogan has said he was blocking because he believes that Sweden has been too soft on Kurdish militants and other groups that he considers to be security threats. Many allies doubt that.At a NATO summit in Lithuania’s c...
